September 12, 1993 - Raymond Burr missed by Perry Mason

Beginning in the fall of 1957, actor Raymond Burr portrayed TV lawyer Perry Mason through 267 episodes and 26 made-for-TV movies, the last of which aired in 1993.

Two months before the final TV appearance, gamester Perry Mason, an attorney himself, let the hit of the year flutter through his fingers when he failed to list Raymond Burr. Instead, it was Wilde & Shaw who led 19 gamesters scoring three points each.

April 15, 2000 - Edward Gorey missed by The Gashlycrumb Tinies

In 1963, illustrator Edward Gorey published "The Gashlycrumb Tinies: Or, After the Outing, An Alphabetical Phantasmagoria in Which a Succession of Infants Meet Dreadful Ends." The A-to-Z catalog began, "A is for Amy, who fell down the stairs," and went on to become a classic.

The Gashlycrumb Tinies paid homage to Gorey and his delightfully dark humor when they took their Game name, but forgot to include him on their list to complete the circle. Instead, the Merry Little Breezes soloed into second place at 28 points with three points on Gorey.

December 18, 2000 - Randolph Hearst missed by William Randolph Hearse

Randolph Hearst was the last son of William Randolph Hearst, the father of Patty Hearst, and the head of a mammoth publishing empire.

William Randolph Hearse loved the play on words but missed the family connection. Instead, Mullen's Revenge and Willie's Will scored two each on Randolph Hearst.
