The phrase "big hit" means different things to different gamesters. To those with eyes for size, it means hits like these:
June 26, 1997 - Israel Kamakawiwo'ole (7) - Moss
Singer Israel Kamakawiwo'ole, aka Bruddah Iz, was a much loved and award-winning recording artist whose motto was, "Live good, live free, and be Hawaiian." Unfortunately, the good life pumped Bruddah Iz up to over 750 pounds, and Bruddah Moss was there for the solo when the Island star died of respiratory failure and the Honolulu Star-Bulletin headline read simply and hugely, "Iz dies."
Feb. 7, 2000 - Big Pun (8) - 2 Dead Crew
"Supersized rapper Big Pun, aka Christopher Rios, collapsed in a New York hotel room and died yesterday." So began the obit of the 698-pound platinum selling hip-hopper whose debut album, Capital Punishment, drew controversy for its risqué cover which featured a grinning Rios cupping the bare breasts of a topless model. Living large indeed, Rios died at age 28 of a heart attack brought on by his mammoth proportions. His publicist, David Granoff, delivered a touching eulogy, noting, "He was beloved and admired and accomplished and rich." Also feeling wealthy was 2 Dead Crew, rap devotee, with Big Pun's bequest of eight points.
Oct. 23rd, 2000 - Rodney "Yokozuna" Anoai (7) - Ghostwriter
A WWF champion at 700 pounds, Hawaiian-born Rodney Anoai ate himself out of steady work in the United States, no longer able to pass the physical. But the authorities allowed him to wrestle in Great Britain, where he told the press he ate 240 eggs, 12 pieces of chicken and a bucket of rice every day to maintain his physique. He complained that Britain was driving him crazy because the doorways were too small. A member of the Wrestlemania tour's road crew found him dead in his hotel suite on the seventh floor at the Moat House Hotel in Liverpool. Heart attack or stroke were the likely causes of death. It took six men to remove his 800-lb. body from the room. This was Ghostwriter's second 700+ lb. wrestler and his second death in an English hotel room, but his first hit to combine both.
